Zack and I went to the new GREEN Walmart (which almost seems contradictory to me... using "green" to describe a Walmart? I just don't know.) and bought four rubbermaid containers to serve as our recycle bins.
We put them out on the patio since we didn't have room in the apartment. The location is a little (or a lot) inconvenient but I've been really serious about putting our plastic bottles and paper (mostly main) in the bins. I have one mini coke can in the metal container... we're on our way!
I even try to save the stuff from work to take it home and put it in the bin. I currently have a one quart milk jug and Froot Loop cereal box on my desk at work that I plan to take home.
The "Green" Wal-mart (which is still a sprawling facility) has a green roof instead of a blue one. The lights are not as bright and they use sensors to turn on lights in the freezer sections. The lights stay off until you step (and stay) in front of the freezer door. They also sell those cloth grocery bags for a dollar. I wanted to buy 5 but Zack convinced me not to get the bags and use the cost-co box I keep in my trunk instead. I still think the cloth bags are cool so I'll probably go back and get a few.
I've also been trying to be conscious enough to take my own to-go trays to the cafeteria but I haven't done it yet. My co-worker and I went to the cafeteria the other day to get breakfast and I was caught in this huge dilemma about how I was gonna take my food to-go without getting a styrofoam container. I walked in circles (literally) trying to make a decision... I eventually got the styrofoam and felt sooooo bad. I did it again this morning after forgetting to take my little plastic bowl. *sad face*
baby steps
